The King’s West track and field team is sending seven athletes to the Class 2B state track and field championships, which begin today and continue tomorrow, in Cheney.
Irene Moore, a senior, will compete in the 400-meter dash, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and pole vault after posting state-qualifying scores in all four events at last weekend’s Class 2B Tri-District championships at the Southwest Athletic Conference.
Moore won the 400 in 1 minute, 0.83 seconds and the pole vault with an 8-foot-6-inch leap. She took second in both the 100 hurdles (16.36) and 300 hurdles (48.90).
Carlie Rouse, a junior, qualified for state in both the 1,600 (5:36.58) and 3,200 (12:54.64), which she won ahead of teammates Molly Wheeler (13:09.27) and Leandra Shdo (13:17.84), who finished second and third, respectively, also qualifying for state.
On the boys side, junior Chase Estes won the triple jump (42-09.50) and took second in the long jump (19-02), qualifying for state in both.
Colin Mange, a senior, qualified in the pole vault with a second-place finish (11-0) and fellow senior Drew McCullough qualified in the javelin, throwing a 157-11 to finish second.
