Preseason look at local prep football teams

Bainbridge

2021 record: 3-6 (3-4)

Coach: Jeff Rouser

Key players: Seniors Luke Lavigne, Saha Hermann, Micah Bryant, Jeff Utter and sophomore Jack Grant

Outlook: Rouser said this is one of the strongest senior classes in his tenure. The squad will be led by captains Bryant and Utter. In addition, the offense will see a healthy and dangerous air duo between Lavigne and Grant, who is returning from an ACL injury as a freshman last season.

Bremerton

2021 record: 6-3 (5-2 in league)

Coach: Paul Theriault

Key returnees: RB/DB Jayden Quenga, KR D’Shawn Harvison, LB Oliver Christian

Outlook: Bremerton will be one of the few teams fighting for the league championship. Even though it lost a few all-league players, the squad still has some of its best skill players. Quenga will be on opponents’ radars after finishing first team on both sides of the ball.

Coach: Mark Keel

Key players: Seniors Kouper Hall, Dawson Williams, Micah Stringfield and Greyson Morley

Outlook: Several key members on both sides of the ball graduated last year, including QB Kalai Pasi. Therefore, Central Kitsap will be relying on a young front line and workhorse running back Hall if they want to improve from last season.

Schedule:

• Sept. 2, 7 p.m., Bremerton

• Sept. 16, 7 p.m. at Yelm

Coach: Billy Russo

Outlook: Although Kingston struggled last season, the squad only saw four seniors graduate. Therefore, this young team had a chance to build throughout the whole offseason and summer. Kingston is coming off a 12th place finish, going 1-2, at the 7 on 7 tournament where sophomore Dewaun Swan stood out. In addition, the squad brings back second-team all-league wide receiver Walter for one more season.

Outlook: Although Klahowya gave up 28 points per game last year, it returns Nisqually Player of the Year Wallis and second-team defensive back Nate Turk. Moore was one of three freshmen making all-league while Morgan and Turk were two of 10 sophomores to make the list.

Coach: Jeff Weible

Key players: Seniors Jordan Reece, Diego Deluna, Sofian Hammou and Benen Lawler, junior Logan Sloman and sophomore Ethan Guerra

Outlook: Who will fill the shoes of Colton Bower at QB? That’s the big question. But the team also lost many seniors who were first- and second-team all-league honorees on both sides of the ball. And, the Vikings’ young core struggled in a 7-on-7 tournament, finishing 0-3 in pool play. But they do return a strong front seven on both sides of the ball.

2021 record: 6-3 (6-1 in league)

Coach: Sal Quitevis

Key players: Seniors Josh Gauyan, Alvah Fanua and Tristan Bluitt, and junior Luke Silva
