Softballers sweep Skagit Valley, improve to 3-3.
If it weren’t for Everett, the Olympic College baseball team’s overall record would be right around .500. But Everett has beaten the Rangers (9-15 overall, 0-4 division) in each of the teams’ five match-ups this season, including four times last week.
Everett’s pitching controlled OC’s bats all four games, allowing only two total runs. OC’s inability to hit resulted in the four-game sweep as Everett (13-5 overall, 4-0 division) won 8-0 and 7-0 Sunday, and 7-0 and 12-2 Tuesday.
But despite the losses against Everett, the Rangers have already easily eclipsed last year’s win total of two, remaining competitive in NWAACC play.
OC will be busy this weekend, with four games against NWAACC North Region first-place Edmonds (16-2 overall, 4-0 division). The Rangers travel to Edmonds for a double header today, before playing host tomorrow at Legion Field. Action begins at 1 p.m.
Softball
The OC softball squad brought its season record back up to .500 with a sweep against Skagit Valley, winning 4-3 and 3-2 in a Tuesday home double header.
Erika Quint, a Central Kitsap graduate, got the wins in both games.
In the opener, Quint started, giving up just a single run through five innings while OC scored four. That was enough as OC withstood a two-run Cardinal sixth to win 4-3. Catcher Amy Renfrow, also of CK, and Kari Leaverton each batted 2-for-3 with Leaverton adding a double.
In the nightcap, South Kitsap’s Kali Butler got the start, allowing just a single run in four innings before Quint entered in relief duty. OC scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to steal the win 3-2. Niki Winburn was 2-3 for OC (3-3, 3-3 in NWAACC North Division play).
The Lady Ragners hosted Edmonds in a double header yesterday, but results were unavailable at press time. The Rangers travel to Bellevue today.
Golf
The Rangers hosted the Olympic College Invitational Sunday and Monday at Gold Mountain Golf Complex, with the guys taking sixth amongst 11 teams. OC has not fielded a women’s team this spring.
In men’s action, Bellevue won the two-day showdown on Gold Mountain’s Olympic Course, compiling a low score of 596 to edge Southwestern Oregon’s 605. OC tallied 637 overall, led by Adam Whitaker’s 155 (77, 78). Matt Standberg shot 156, Josh White a 158, Brad Guzman (of Bremerton) a 168 and Adam Cudillo a 172 for OC, which won the 2007 North Division title. Bellevue’s Richard Lee shot a 138 to lead all individuals.
Spokane won the women’s tourney with 513 to edge SW Oregon (514) by a single point. Columbia Basin was third with 516. Spokane was led by Katie Sorenson’s 156, the top women’s score.
