North Kitsap’s state quarterfinal preview

Anacortes (9-1) vs. North Kitsap (10-1)

Anacortes resurged this season and nearly upset the defending state champion Lynden Lions a few weeks ago. Since the 2012-13 season, Anacortes has had three winning seasons, including this year. The Seahawks have placed themselves above their competition because of the Beaner brothers.

Brock Beaner leads the Seahawks in rushing yards per game (106.6), touchdowns (16), tackles per game (4.1), sacks (4) and fumble recoveries (1). Meanwhile, his brother, Brady, has played nearly every position this year.

Brady is the backup quarterback averaging 60 yards per game and backup running back averaging 36.3 yards per game. In addition, he has 483 receiving yards, seven touchdowns, two tackles per game, two interceptions and a forced fumble.

The Anacortes offense strikes early as it averages around 21 points in the first half, compared with 11 in the second.

North Kitsap’s offense is similar. The Vikings average 33 points in the first half and 12 points in the second.

NK’s Logan Sloman is the X-factor for the Vikings. Sloman is coming off a career performance against Fife where he scored two touchdowns, had two interceptions and five tackles.

If the Vikings want to move to the semifinals, they will need to rely on their defense. The defense held Fife to seven points in five red zone appearances. Plus, they have given up 41 points in 11 games this season, an all-time low during Jeff Weible’s coaching era.

The game will kick off at North Kitsap on Nov. 18 at 6:30 pm.
