North Kitsap soccer, Kingston baseball move on to state | Sports updates

Kingston tops North Mason to qualify for state

The Kingston High baseball team defeated North Mason Saturday, 5-3, in the West Central District III tournament in Tacoma. The win gave the Buccaneers the district title for the first time in the school’s three-year history and propelled them into the state tournament for the third year in a row. The Bucs will begin state tournament play at 10 a.m. May 22 in Yelm against an opponent that is yet to be determined.

Nick Torento recorded the win for Kingston and went 2-for-3 at the plate.

The Bucs also defeated Fife on Friday, 7-6. Richie Sander got the win in that outing. Sander came in during the fifth inning, with two outs and the bases loaded, with the score tied at six runs each. He escaped the inning without allowing a run. Kevin Woodral broke up the tie in the bottom of the fifth with a base hit to score Max Sagdahl.

North Kitsap moving on to state tourney

The North Kitsap High boys soccer team will move on to play in the Class 3A state tournament next week after beating Bonney Lake Saturday, 2-0. Ismeal DeLuna and Matt Turley each scored on headers. Both goals came on crosses from Carlos Tirado. Jordan Hadden recorded the shutout in goal for the Vikings.

North will play its next game on Tuesday, against an opponent that is yet to be determined.
