GU11 NK Blast ‘97 rockets to victory

The NK Blast ‘97, also known as the mini blast — one of NKSC’s newest and youngest teams — won its first ever outdoor game and tournament Aug. 1-3 in Federal Way.

At the Federal Way Blast Off Tournament, Blast ‘97 received championship honors in the E bracket, as it defeated Enumclaw’s Rastellis ’97 in a nail-biting championship match, tipping the scales with a goal in the final 30 seconds of the game to win, 2-1.

The mini blast is coached by Cheryl Fogg and Nancy Holt.

Kitsap Youth Lacrosse Association offers summer camp for 3rd- through 8th-graders

The Kitsap Youth Lacrosse Association is hosting a summer camp for rising third- through eighth-grade boys and girls. The camp will be from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 18-20 at the bus barn field located behind Central Kitsap Junior High in Silverdale. The school is at 10130 Frontier Place NW in Silverdale. Campers will learn stick skills: throwing, catching, cradling, checking. There will be individual skill drills and team competitions. Cost is $50. Sticks, with a refundable deposit of $30, will be available for use. Campers need to provide their own mouthguard and cleats. Goggles and pads are optional but encouraged. Proceeds from the camp go toward supporting KYLA’s teams that compete in the state lacrosse league. There are third through fourth grade, fifth through sixth grade and seventh through eighth grade leagues for both boys and girls. Swinging clubs for kids

It’s almost time for the fourth annual Scholarship Golf Tournament at Gold Mountain Golf Course Cascades and Olympic courses. The event takes place on Sept. 13, only 96 golfers may participate and it’s open to the public. Cost is $135 for the Olympic course and $125 for the Cascade course. Dinner only is $30. Proceeds from the event help support the North Kitsap and Kingston high schools’ scholarship fund and the North Kitsap Education Foundation. Sponsorships are still available. Kingston High School athletics swinging into fall gear

The Kingston High School athletic department will be conducting performance testing for all athletes from 4-7 p.m. on Aug. 18 at Buccaneer Field. Athletes will test their speed, explosiveness, agility, and endurance in the electronic 40, vertical jump, I-agility, and Buc Run.

The Kingston High School football team will host its preseason player meeting on Aug. 19 at 11:00 a.m. in the KHS band room. All players entering grades ninth through 12th who plan to turn out for the team should attend this mandatory meeting. Equipment will be checked out after the meeting.

The first day of football practice for players entering grades ninth through 12th is Aug. 20 at 3:00 pm at Buccaneer Field.

All athletes must be cleared to participate by the Athletics Office at KHS prior to participating in any practices or games. This includes having a current physical, athletic registration, and emergency/insurance form on file. All three of these forms can be found online at the Web address listed above.
