Q: What is your job at Crosspoint, formerly King’s West?

A: I’m going into my 16th school year here. I’ve been the girls varsity fastpitch coach for the past 13 or 14 years. This isn’t my first stint as the athletic director — I was AD in 2006-07 and part of the 2007-08 school year. I’m also the facilities manager and transportation coordinator for the school. There’s always something going on.

Q: Talk about the name change from King’s West to Crosspoint Academy

A: It’s kind of a new era, a new feel for some things that are going to be happening over the next few years. The change happened about a month ago. It’s been in the works for a long time, but the actual moving to that name pretty much happened within the last month (August).

Q: Where are you from?

A: I’m originally from California — southern California, the San Diego area. I came up here when my daughter was a junior. I started here as a night custodian 16 seasons ago, I guess you’d say.

Q: Challenges?

A: Anytime you’re talking about a name change, you’ve got to talk about uniforms, banners, changing your letterman’s jackets — that sort of stuff. Those things are going to feed in fairly slowly; a couple of our fall sports teams will probably have to wear the old uniforms while we wait for the new ones.

Q: And the mascot?

A: Still going to be the Warriors. Kids really don’t want that to change, especially the kids who have been here a number of years. It’s important. And we’re still in the Sea-Tac League.

Q: What happened to the girls soccer team?

A: For the first time in 14 years, we don’t have a girls soccer program. It’s a little bit disheartening because a couple of the girls had been on the team for a couple years. But at this point in time, it seems like the girls program isn’t drawing the interest. The students coming up aren’t participating.
