Overview: This is the first meeting between the schools during the regular season. In addition to its 2002 victory, which marked the Chargers’ last state-playoff win, they also defeated South 17-14 in overtime on Nov. 27, 1981, in the 4A state semifinals. Despite the lack of recent state appearances, Kentridge features some playmakers on both sides of the ball. Davis, who scored on a 65-yard run for the go-ahead touchdown during last year’s 18-15 win against Jefferson, is one of the SPSL’s most explosive players. That game actually marked the fewest points the Chargers scored in a 2011 game. They averaged 32.6 points per game. Whether Kentridge can be as prolific offensively remains to be seen as Smith transitions from tight end to quarterback.
