Four schools qualify for state tennis

Four Kitsap schools will be sending girls tennis players to state.

North Kitsap’s Teegan Devries came into the 2A district tournament as the third seed. After reaching the semifinals, she fell to the eventual champion from Sammamish.

She bounced back and took third place with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Olympic’s Bailey Walton will also head to the tournament after finishing sixth. She won her first match, lost to Devries in the second round, and then won two straight.

Bremerton’s Elena Andreu and Claire Warthen also reached state. The duo won their first match before falling and capturing fifth in the doubles bracket.

Bainbridge’s Malia Lemieux and Elle Schuchman finished fifth in the 3A districts and qualified for state. Their only loss came to the eventual champions from Capital High School in Olympia.

In addition, Spartan singles player Izzy Wallin will sneak into the state tournament after finishing sixth in districts.
