Former Viking hoopster headed to Montana Tech

Eric Schippers, a former North Kitsap High School basketball player from Kingston, signed a letter of intent to play for Montana Tech of the University of Montana, in Butte. The Orediggers compete in the Frontier Conference of the NAIA. For the past two years, Schippers has played forward at Edmonds Community College. Schippers plans to pursue a degree in Applied Health Science. He is the son of Rob and Suzanne Schippers of Kingston.

Kingston residents place in Windermere marathon

Three Kingston residents placed high in the inaugural Windermere Marathon in Spokane last week. Greg Platz finished first in the 35-39 age group and tenth overall with a time of 3 hours, 11 minutes and 31 seconds. Ben Elmer placed second in the 55-59 age group with a time of 3 hours, 32 minutes and 21 seconds. Lynly Hewett took second in the 35-39 age group in the half marathon with a time of 1 hour, 41 minutes and 26 seconds. Her time was the twelfth fastest overall among the 446 female half marathon runners.

KHS hosts Buc-a-thon Powerlifting Challenge

The Kingston High School ASB will host a powerlifting competition May 29 at 4:30 p.m. in the KHS gym. Male and female athletes from KHS will compete against athletes from area schools, and many will use the competition as a fundraiser for summer sports camps. The public is encouraged to attend; admission is $2 at the door. Girls basketball camp will be June 1-5

North Kitsap High School hosts a girls basketball prep camp June 1-5 from 3-5 p.m. at the NKHS gym. The camp is open to girls going into grades 7-12. Cost is $20 per camper, and includes a t-shirt.

Save Our Pool organizes fun run

The Save Our Pool organization has joined forces with Poulsbo Running to organize the Save Our Pool & North Kitsap Cross Country 5K run and walk. The event will be held June 14 in Port Gamble and proceeds will support the North Kitsap Community Pool and the North Kitsap High School Cross Country team. Volleyball camp set at NKHS gym

The North Kitsap High School Boosters present Vikings Volleyball Camp 2009 July 28-31 at the NKHS gym. The camp is open to girls entering grades 5-12. Cost is $80 per camper and $50 for additional siblings. Checks should be made payable to NKHS Athletic Boosters and mailed with registration form to Tim French, 20085 Bue Rund Loop NE, Poulsbo, WA 98370. Are you ready for some spring football?

The Kingston High School football team will hold two weeks of spring football practice from June 1-13. An introductory player meeting for students entering high school will be held June 1 at 3 p.m. in the band room to discuss practice plans and issue equipment. The team will practice from June 2-5 and June 8-12 from 2:45-5:30 p.m. at KHS. Spring ball will culminate with a scrimmage and barbecue with Bremerton High School June 13 at 10:30 a.m. at Buc Field. Athletes who are interested in playing football next year are strongly encouraged to participate in the spring. To do so, players must have a current physical and emergency/insurance form on file in the KHS athletics office. Second annual North Kitsap Area Youth Football readies coaches clinic

The Kingston High School football staff will conduct a coaches clinic May 30 for youth and middle school level coaches in the area. The clinic is free and will run from 9 a.m. to noon in the KHS band room. Defensive, offensive and special teams philosophies and systems will be discussed as well as techniques by position. Handouts and a continental breakfast will be provided.
