Jalen Davis’ 51 points, a school record, led the Bremerton Knights to their first win of the season, demolishing South Kitsap 94-42 at home Dec. 2.
The Knights won the 2A state championship last season and are looking to repeat.
“We’re just hungry, since it’s a new year,” Davis said. “Everybody else is coming for us, so we just got to come prepared.”
Davis, within the first minute of play, scored six points, including a made three-pointer where he got fouled and sank the free throw and a dunk, warranting an SK timeout. Eventually, the Knights managed to break free and go on a 12-4 scoring run behind Davis and Junior Davis-McWhorter, and led 30-10 by the end of the first quarter.
The lead increased to 48-15 at halftime. Davis led Bremerton with 30 points in the first half.
Knight center Jay Beahan and Davis both hammered home slam dunks to start the second half, setting the tone for the remainder of the game. Bremerton continued to increase its lead over the Wolves with Davis and company continuing to pick off passes and generate turnovers, allowing the Knights to build a 48-point lead at 76-28 at the end of the third quarter.
Davis pushed the Knights’ lead to above 50 with 6:22 remaining in the game. Rylyn Young led the Wolves in scoring with 12 on the night.
“We just have more to prove,” Bremerton coach Miah Davis said. “This is the tip of the iceberg, you know, first game of the year. Don’t know what to expect.”
