What was nearly a major upset for the Olympic Trojans turned into a major sigh of relief for the Central Kitsap Cougars.

With the two schools squaring off in volleyball on Tuesday, the Trojans appeared to be headed toward a blowout.

Olympic won both opening games, taking the first 25-23 before running away with the second 25-12.

CK battled back however, finishing 25-17, 25-19 and 15-5 en route to a thrilling 3-2 win against the class 4A Cougars’ class 3A counterparts.

Rachael Diehl and Natalie Pfaff each recorded 10 kills for CK, while Alexis Wesley led the Cougs with 11, also contributing seven blocks. Setter Hayley McDermed dished off 35 assists and Jordan Chronister led CK with 28 digs.

For Olympic, Megan Rainey did it all, recording 24 kills and five aces in the match. Taryn Day had nine kills and five blocks while Trojan Kayla Lawson used her defensive skills to record 19 digs.

The win improves CK to 2-1.

Olympic is now 2-2 thanks to a 3-0 (25-22, 27-25, 25-23) win against North Kitsap, also in exciting fashion.

Rainey again led the way for Oly, this time pounding 23 kills. Amy Stone and Chelsea Brustad shared setting duties, with Stone logging 19 assists and Brustad adding 14.
