TACOMA — There is an old adage in sports that everyone except one person — the state champion — will be disappointed in the end.

Just do not apply that to Bremerton’s Cameron Dubos.

Dubos lost the Class 2A 138-pound championship, 12-0, against Orting’s Fred Green on Saturday at Mat Classic XXVII at the Tacoma Dome.

“There’s a reason why he’s a four-time state champion,” Dubos said. “He just goes in there and he always has control of the match. He’s very aware of everything.”

Dubos knew what he was up against before the match. The win enabled Green to become the 12th boy to earn four state championships.

“I just tried to relax,” Dubos said. “I really had nothing to lose. I just wanted to compete.”

Dubos, who won his first two matches by pin before he earned a 9-2 decision against Toppenish’s Daniel Juarez in the semifinals, said his goal this season was to advance to the championship. He also advanced to state last year but did not place.

Dubos is the only top-four placer in his weight class who does not graduate. Because of that, Dubos’ expectation is to win a state championship in 2016.

“That’s the goal,” he said.

In the 2A division, Bremerton finished 23rd overall in the team standings with 23 points, while Olympic was 11th with 59.

Olympic’s Geordyn Shinard defeated Anthony Ruiz of Othello, 5-1, for third place in 195.

Tre Toledo fell to Blaine’s Colton Economy, 6-2, at 113, while teammate Logan Madison lost to Cheney’s Eric Braun, 8-0. Both wrestlers finished in fourth place.

Jayden Fernandez finished sixth at 132 after a close 4-2 loss to Micharl Montiel of Toppenish.

In 3A, Central Kitsap finished 23rd with 33 points in the overall team standings.

Calvin Fishcher, who finished fourth, lost to Mead’s Colton Davis, 15-11, at 160, while Dominick Johnson pinned Kiyrie Simons of Lakes for fifth at 285.

In the 1A division, Klahowya was 15th overall as two wrestlers finished in the top four.

Gabe Wallis lost to Sultan’s Cory Martinez, 9-6, at 145 and Eli Everson was pinned by Castle Rock’s Shawn Godinho at 152.

At 170, Konner Langholff beat Goldendale’s Bryace Wilkins, 15-2, for fifth place.
