Bremerton boys soccer eliminated at districts

LAKEWOOD — The Bremerton boys soccer team was eliminated from postseason competition with a 5-1 loss Saturday against Franklin Pierce in the Class 3A West Central District III tournament at Harry Lang Stadium.

The Knights (6-7-3), who advanced to the postseason for the first time since 1991 and blanked Yelm 3-0 in a district play-in game May 14, didn’t score until senior Andrew Ambach found the net in the 77th minute.

Franklin Pierce, meanwhile, used a quick to start to build a 2-0 halftime lead and poured it on in the second to go up 5-0. James Hoag scored three goals — in the 9th, 69th and 76th minute — to lead the Cardinals (12-4-1), who advanced to the Class 3A state tournament with the win.

While the Knights graduate a handful of seniors, including captain Alex Membrere, they return their two leading scorers, junior Matt Olson (23 goals) and freshman Nick Riders (nine goals).
