BlueJackets earn road sweep

The BlueJackets earned the first road sweep in franchise history against the Cowlitz Black Bears.

Behind the second strong pitching performance in as many days, the Kitsap BlueJackets were able to knock off the Cowlitz Black Bears 5-0 on July 26, earning the team the first road sweep in franchise history.

For the third game in a row the BlueJackets were able to get on the board first.

Alex Junior walked to begin the third and then stole second and third base, coming home on a Kyle Nobach RBI base hit. Later in the inning Brett Bautista would plate another run with an RBI single of his own.

Back-to-back walks issued by Cowlitz reliever Camden Muller were turned into runs in the sixth inning on a Nobach run-scoring groundout to the right side of the infield and a Jake Scudder RBI base hit.

That was all the run support Kitsap starter Adam Cline (3-1) needed as he would go on to twirl six scoreless innings, scattering five hits and two walks while tying a season-high with ten strikeouts.

Holden Capps closed the door with three one-hit innings from the seventh on, striking out four in the process to take his third save of the season.

Bautista led the offensive attack with two hits, while Nobach had three RBI’s.

The win puts Kitsap six games behind wild card leader Corvallis with 12 games left on the season.

The BlueJackets return home to Gene Lobe Field on July 27 for a three game series with the Walla Walla Sweets. Game time is 6:35 p.m. and tickets are available atbluejacketbaseball.com/tickets.
