BHS wins, but NK also qualifies some for state

The Bainbridge girls swim team easily won at North Kitsap Sept. 20 130-55, but both teams were able to qualify for the postseason state and district meets with fast times in different events.

The Vikings got off to a fast start as NK’s 200-yard medley relay team, consisting of Tiffany Le, Audrey Crossgrove, Shosho McLain and Natalie Ramey, won and qualified for state with a time of 2:00.56. The Spartan team, consisting of Uma Pal, Iris Lin, Sara Kreigh and Emily Atchison, also qualified for state with a clocking of 2:00.88, finishing a very close second.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Bainbridge’s Kathryn Houseman and Lena Everett finished first and second with times of 2:05.20 and 2:10.98, good enough to qualify for the district postseason meet. NK’s Ashley Husmoe also qualified for districts and finished third in 2:13.84.

Bainbridge’s Maya Geddes won the 200-yard individual medley and qualified for state with a time of 2:19.19. McLain earned her second bid to state with a time of 2:20.68, while Lin finished third in 2:35.58.

The Spartans swept the podium in the fourth event. Kreigh won the 50-yard freestyle in 26.68 seconds, Pal finished second in 27.61 and Beatrice Wilkinson third in 29.48. NK’s Lila O’Neil-Heine finished fourth in 29.67.

The Spartans also swept the 1-meter diving event. Grace Reeb scored 166.05 points, Reese Gray 145 and Montana Rist scored 132.95. Viking Ema Riegel finished fourth with 105.95.

After a quick break, Houseman and Husmoe finished first and second in the 100-yard butterfly, with times of 1:04.93 and 1:11.14. Spartan Amanda Herten finished third in 1:12.93.

Geddes and Lin scored more points for the Spartans after finishing first and second in the 100-yard freestyle with times of 57.69 seconds and 1:03.23. Crossgrove finished third in 1:03.40.

The Spartans swept their third event in the 500-meter freestyle. Kreigh finished with a time of 5:38.10, Atchison finished second in 5:55.98 and Maya Wolf finished third in 6:11.62. NK’s Izzy Cera was fourth in 6:23.81.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Bainbridge’s Lin, Herten, Olivia Longridge and Geddes won in 1:52.66. NK’s Le, Nadia Berry, Eden Parry and Husmoe finished second with 1:55.03. Spartans’ Natalie Schramling, Micah Guy, Ruthie Screen and Teagan Schneider earned third in 1:57.13.

The Vikings dominated the 100-yard breaststroke. McLain won in 1:05.59, and Le finished second in 1:08.98. Everett finished third in 1:09.55.

Margaret Everett responded in the next event by winning the 100-yard backstroke in 1:18.82. Teammate Cate Everett finished third in 1:24.27 while Cera finished second in 1:21.90.

The Spartans ended the meet with Geddes, Atchison, Pal and Kreigh winning the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:58.67. Their second squad, consisting of Wolf, Maggie Robrbach, Olyvia Shepard and Ava LaBarre, finished second in 4:09.12.

NK’s McLain, Crossgrove, Husmoe and Le ended the Vikings’ day with a third-place finish and a time of 4:12.90.
