Bainbridge gymnasts win district, all going to state

Bainbridge’s gymnastics team won the district meet with 159.65 points, and North Kitsap finished fourth with 154.3.

Since the Spartans won, its entire team advanced to state

Spartan Jade Bereman had the third-best all-around score with 36.375 points. She finished second on the beam with a 9.425, second on the floor with a 9.475 and fourth on the bars with an 8.95.

Jacqui Beresford earned a 9.25 on the beam, and Grace Reeb earned a 7.325 on the bars and 9.175 on the floor, securing eighth place in both.

The Vikings will send a few gymnasts to state as individuals.

Rachael Bruns finished eighth on vault while Arabelle Miller, Callie Hinds and Tasha Beukema also qualified for state.

On the bars, Hinds finished sixth and Miller qualified too. On the beam, Miller was the only qualifier after finishing seventh. Lastly, Hinds finished fourth on the floor and Bruns also qualified.

Earlier, those two teams, along with the one from Kingston, started their postseason campaigns at the West Central District sub-district meet.

The top three teams, six all-around gymnasts and 12 individuals in all four events qualified for districts.

The Bainbridge squad won the meet with 158.25 points, NK finished second with 143.35 and Kingston eighth with 76.85.

Bereman was the top gymnast, finishing first in the all-around with 36.875 points. Bereman scored 9.425 on the beam, 9.40 on the floor, 9.25 on the vault and 8.80 on the bars. Reeb finished third in the all-around with 33.275 points. She scored 8.975 on the floor, 8.50 on the vault, 8.20 on the beam and 7.60 on the bars.

For NK, Miller finished seventh with a 31.10 all-around score. Miller scored 8.50 on the vault, 8.10 on the floor, 7.35 on the beam and 7.15 on the bars. Bruns finished eighth with a 30.075 all-around score. Bruns scored 8.05 on the vault, 8.025 on the floor, 7.75 on the beam and 6.25 on the bars.

Since Bainbridge and NK’s gymnasts finished top three as teams, that opened up some individual spots for Kingston to qualify some gymnasts individually.

Kimberley Hust qualified in the bars as the fifth individual, but 25th overall, with a 4.40 score. Julia Segerstrom qualified in the beam as the eighth individual, 29th overall, with a 5.95 score. And Jane Sperry earned the 12th individual spot on the floor with a 5.375 score.
