Jalen Carpenter scored a career-high 32 points and hauled in 18 rebounds to catapult the Lady Knights past Sequim 54-35 Monday.

The win erased what had been a three-game losing streak dating back to Dec. 16, when the team beat Klahowya 57-52.

“It’s always good to get a win,” coach Daniel McInnis said Wednesday. “The big thing is to play well and continue to improve.”

Carpenter, a freshman, helped BHS build a 19-7 first-quarter lead and 33-15 halftime lead before cruising through the second half.

A majority of Carpenter’s points, McInnis said, came on second-chance opportunities because Sequim lacked the size to control the paint.

“She was pretty much able to score when she wanted to,” McInnis said.

The Lady Knights (2-9 overall, 2-5 league) host Kingston at 7 p.m. today and Port Angeles at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Boys basketball

The Bremerton boys basketball team rebounded from two consecutive losses last week to beat Olympic and Sequim this week and move into fourth place in the Olympic League standings.

Senior Josh Koets scored 17 points and J’Tonn Dale added 14 to lead BHS past Olympic 58-50 in a makeup game at home Monday. The Knights led 28-26 at halftime, then outscored the Trojans 21-14 in the third quarter to build a lead they never relinquished.

A day later, the Knights outscored Sequim 25-8 in the second and third quarters combined en route to a 54-38 victory. Koets once again led the BHS offensive charge, scoring 19.

The Sequim win bumped BHS’ overall record to 5-6 and league record to 4-3.

The team travels to Kingston tonight and Port Angeles Tuesday. Both games begin at 7 p.m.
