Bainbridge, North Kitsap meet Saturday in 2nd Agate Cup

Bainbridge and North Kitsap will hit the gridiron Saturday for the second edition of the Agate Cup.

The Spartans took home the inaugural trophy on their home turf in 2019, defeating the Vikings 14-3 in the Week 1 game. Alex Ledbetter led the way for Bainbridge, racking up a combined 123 yards passing and running and scoring both of the game’s touchdowns.

This year, North Kitsap is looking to bring the Cup back to its side of Agate Pass. The Vikings are 2-0 with victories over Central Kitsap and Sequim. Junior quarterback Colton Bower leads the offense – having thrown for 360 yards and six touchdowns and also rushing for 131 yards.

Tight end AJ Fitsemons leads North Kitsap with four receiving TDs, including three in their previous game against Sequim. Freshman receiver Logan Sloman leads the team in receiving yards with 131.

Meanwhile, Bainbridge is 2-1, beating Shelton and Olympic while losing to Sequim. The Spartans have a good passing attack as well, led by Gabriel Todd. The senior signal-caller has thrown for 767 yards and seven touchdowns, and has a bevy of running backs and receivers to throw to.

Jack Mielke leads the team in receptions with 16 while Austin Coupland has 195 receiving yards. The Spartans like to spread the ball around as five players have at least one receiving touchdown. Cal Breen has 125 rushing yards for Bainbridge, and he was a big part of the passing game in last week’s victory over Olympic, in which he had six receptions for 134 yards and two scores.

The game starts at 1 p.m. at North Kitsap Stadium and will be streamed live on Facebook: https://fb.me/e/3hqvPhok9
