Trees rooted deep in the pages of the Bible

TREEMENDOUS TREES

TREEMENDOUS TREES

History and archeologists indicate that humankind took seriously the exhortation from God to use plants and herbs, the gifts of creation for health and wholeness of humanity. The following is a list of trees that are noted in the Bible with passages.

Common Apple — “Comfort me with apples.” “As the apple trees among the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under His shadow with great delight, and His fruit was sweet to my taste”. Song of Solomon 2:3

Cedar of Lebanon — “And upon all the cedars of Lebanon, that are high and lifted up, and all the oaks of Bashon.” Isaiah 2:13

Babylon Willow — “Ye now hear, O Jacob my servant, and Israel whom I have chosen … For I will pour the water upon him that is thirsty, and floods dry up the ground. I will pour My spirit upon the seed, any my blessing upon thine offspring … And they shall spring up among the grass, as willows by the water courses.” Isaiah 44:1,3,4

Carpathian Walnut — In Jesus’ time Walnut trees grew on the Galilee shoreline. Jesus’ coat was rich brown and the dye was made from the leaves and nuts of the walnut tree.

Sycamore — “Zacchaeus climbed the Sycamore as he sought to see Jesus pass by the way.” Luke 19:1-4

Poplar — “And Jacob took the rods of the Poplar and pilled white streaks in them and made the white appear which was in the rods.” Genesis 30:37

Cypress — “He Hewth him down cedars, and taketh the Cypress and Oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest, he planted an Ash, and the rain doth nourish it.” Isaiah 44:13

Corsican Black Pine — “The Glory of Lebanon shall come unto thee and box together, to beautify the place of my sanctuary and I will make the place of my fee glorious.” Isaiah 60:13

Oak — When Cain murdered Abel, Cain had to carry his brother’s body for 700 years and then bury him. To mark the burial place, Cain stuck his staff into the ground. Seven Oaks sprang forth in a row, now known as the “Seven Oaks of Palestine.”
