Olympia never tires of ignoring our wishes

In 2007, “We the people” passed initiative 960 which says Washington’s Legislature can not increase taxes without two-thirds majority vote or by going back to the people and asking for permission to raise taxes.

We passed Initiative 960 because we felt that if two-thirds of the Legislature felt there was no way to balance the budget without raising taxes, then that must be the case and taxes would need to be raised.

However, if less than two-thirds believed raising taxes was the only answer, then we felt they should darn well listen to the minority that felt there were others ways to balance the budget … without raising taxes.

Well, the Legislature just passed a resolution saying they can ignore I-960.

They know better then us and they can’t get the two-thirds majority, so they’re just going to bypass it and go with a simple majority vote.

They are not even going to ask our permission or input.
