Bellringer facing an uphill run

Heading toward its biggest fundraising goal in its illustrious 56 years, the Bellringer Fund has seen a recent surge of giving but is still short of where it was at this time in 2006. While many have pitched in to do their share in helping propel the fund forward, it is still about $25,000 shy of its $35,000 target.

So why the lofty goal to begin with?

The generosity of North Kitsap residents has pushed the seasonal fundraising effort past its hoped for mark for the past several years, cruising past $30,000 easily. That said, it’s not just about hitting a target — it’s about helping your less fortunate neighbors in 2008.

Bellringer lends a hand to residents in need all year long, providing one-time assistance with everything from heating bills to food purchases. The more we give, the more people will be helped.

That’s why the push is made and has been made here in North Kitsap for more than a half century. That’s why the Herald relinquishes prime real estate on Page 1 each and every issue throughout the holidays.

As a community newspaper, it is our duty to do what we can. But, in all honesty, we’re totally in it for the money. Of course, the money in question is not for our personal gain at all, rather it goes to a cause that gives back to thousands of residents.

Asking for help isn’t the easiest thing to do, yet those in dire need are forced to swallow their pride and seek assistance where they can find it — for the well-being of themselves and their families.

Bellringer was created to ensure it is there when they ask. If you haven’t done so yet, please give generously.
