Robert Jones, 84, a long time resident of Kitsap County; died May 4, 2019. Bob was born in Seattle in 1934 to Pearl and Lucia Jones. He attended South Kitsap Schools beginning with Waterman School and graduated with the class of 1953 from South Kitsap High School. Bob joined the US Army in 1955 as a teletype operator. After he was Honorably discharged, he worked various jobs such as logger, taxi driver, school bus driver and worked for the State for 23 years. He retired in 1989 as plant manager 3 at the veterans home in Retsil. He married Leslie Whitcomb in 1964, they were married 52 years, until her death in 2016. Bob was an avid hunter and outdoors man his whole life. He loved to hunt deer, elk, bear and buffalo. He also enjoyed camping and hiking. Bob loved traveling and one of his places to travel was to his church’s different mission fields in Bolivia, Puerto Rico and Tanzania where he used his carpentry skills to help maintain their buildings. A memorial service will be held at Christ the Rock Church in Port Orchard on May 25, 2019 at 1 PM. A reception and a time of sharing will follow. Those attending are encouraged to bring a memory to share.
