Richard J. Rice, 58

Richard James Rice died May 12, 2006 in Seattle. He was 58.

Rice was born to James Barton and Doris (Snyder) Rice in Bremerton on Sept. 22, 1947.

He married Andrea Waag on April 19, 1969 in Poulsbo.

Rice graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1966.

He worked as a road maintenance supervisor in the Kitsap County Public Works Department’s North End road shop for 30 years before retiring in 1999. He also owned his own business A&A Grading for 12 years.

Rice served in the Army National Guard from 1967-1973 attaining the rank of sergeant. He also earned sharpshooter and expert marksmanship badges during his service.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and car restoration. He was also a member of the AFL-CIO.

Rice is survived by his wife Andrea of Port Ludlow; sons Jason (Marci) Rice of Port Orchard and Greg (Jennifer) Rice of Seabeck; sisters Susan (Dennis) Lunde of Poulsbo and Shirley Rice (Gary) of Poulsbo; a grandson; and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. May 25 at Christ Memorial Church in Poulsbo and burial will be at The Stone Chapel Cherry Grove Memorial Park.
