Ralph Syltebo

Ralph Syltebo, 85

Ralph Syltebo died May 12 at his home in Mill Creek. He was born to Ole and Dorthea Syltebo on Aug. 14, 1922, and raised in Bangor on the shore of Hood Canal.

Syltebo graduated from Central Kitsap High School in Silverdale. He went into the machinist apprenticeship at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, then served during World War II as a merchant seaman, mostly stationed in the South Pacific.

He married Tootie on June 21, 1947, in Poulsbo and they made Everett their home while he worked at Sumner Iron Works and Scott Paper Co. They had two children and enjoyed family life in Pinehurst before returning to Mill Creek.

Syltebo was preceded in death by his brothers, Stan and Dennis Syltebo.

He is survived by his wife, Tootie; his children, L.K. and Larry Syltebo; and his brother, Bjame Syltebo.

At his request, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Providence Hospice and Home Care of Snohomish County where he volunteered for 19 years and is Hospice Angel #11.
