Peter Nans Joren Tengesdal

Peter Nans Joren Tengesdal of Poulsbo died Nov. 21, 2007. He was 86.

Tengesdal was born in Maxbass, N.D. on Oct. 29, 1921.

He married Melba Tenney on Aug. 12, 1951.

Tengesdal graduated from Brander School, North Dakota School of Forestry, Concordia College in Moorhead, N.D., and Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn.

He worked as the dean of boys at the Dakota Lutheran High school, served at Three Prairie Lutheran Church near Williston, N.D. in 1954, was the assistant pastor in charge of youth and education at Ballard First Lutheran Church starting in 1960, and was the senior pastor of First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo for almost 20 years. After retiring, he served as a visitation pastor for Emmanuel Lutheran in Tacoma. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1941-1946.

Tengesdal enjoyed long annual America and Canada vacations, traveling, being outdoors, growing gladiolas, roses, carnations and vegetables.

Tengesdal is survived by his wife Melba; sons Jeff (Barb) of Bismark, N.D. and Mark of Denton, Texas; daughter Patricia (David) Siburg of Poulsbo; sister Sophie Ommedal of Maxbass, N.D.; and grandchildren Timothy, Thomas, Tamara, Joren and Britta.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, three brothers and his son Daniel.

Arrangements are being handled by Poulsbo Mortuary.

Services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 25 at First Lutheran Church.
