Odette Dion

Odette Jean Dion of Poulsbo died Sept. 3, 2007 in Poulsbo. She was 85.

She was born Oct. 18, 1921 in Paris, France.

When Dion was 3 years old, her family moved to Biddeford, Maine. She married Romeo G. Dion in 1942.

They both moved to Washington and she worked in the Naval Shipyard for approximately two years while her husband was overseas. After her husband was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge, she returned to Maine for six years.

During that time her daughter was born in 1947. In 1950, the family moved to Bremerton.

Dion worked as a meat wrapper and helped open five grocery stores, introducing self-service meat departments. She loved the outdoors — camping, fishing, traveling, gardening — sewing and most of all cooking and entertaining.

She is survived by her husband; daughter, Suzanne Skorheim and her husband Dean; and one granddaughter, Carrie Skorheim of Snohomish.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 8 at St. Olaf Church, 18943 Caldart Avenue NE, Poulsbo, WA 93870. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
