Nancy Petersen

Nancy Petersen of Poulsbo died on Sept. 16, at Harrison Medical Center. She was 66.

She was born on Nov. 23, 1942, in Oak Park, Ill., to Walter and Lucielle Herbst. She graduated from Prospect High in 1961 and married Richard Petersen on Nov. 9, 1963 in Mount Prospect, Ill.

She worked for the North Kitsap School District until she retired in 1996.

Petersen started at Poulsbo Elementary as a volunteer art instructor and later as a teacher. Later she moved to North Kitsap High School as an administrative assistant for the English and Arts Department. She enjoyed teaching art, oil and water colors.

She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Petersen; mother Lucielle; son Rick Petersen; daughter Barbara Petersen; brothers: Fred Jensen and her twin brother, Lee Herbst (Nancy Pat); and grandchildren: Kayla Petersen and Chenoa Jones.

A celebration of life will be from 1-4 p.m.on Sept. 28 at Island Lake Community Room, 1087 NW Island Lake Road, Poulsbo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 1322 Eighth Ave, 7th Floor, New York, NY, 10001.
