Mildred Bartle

Mildred Bartle, 95

Former Poulsbo resident Mildred (Millie) Bartle died Nov. 30, 2005 in Hayesville, N.C. She was 95.

She was born to Ralph and Nina (McCready) Collins in Suver, Ore. on Oct. 25, 1910.

Bartle married William Westfall Bartle on June 1934 in Albany, Ore. in a garden.

She graduated from Albany High School in Albany Ore. and from University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi and served as house president.

Bartle taught junior high school in Silverton, Ore., was secretary to the dean of the law school at University of Oregon and was secretary at Crest Drive Elementary School in Eugene. She moved to Poulsbo in 1973 where she purchased and operated Poulsbo Country Deli. She won the State Small Business Award in 1989. She ran the business until her retirement at the age of 85.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading and sports.

Bartle is survived by her daughters Billie (Leo) Jordan of Whidbey Island and Ruth (Roger) Johnson of Suches, Ga.; brother John Collins of Kaiser, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Wallace and Leonard, sister Frances, husband William (Bill) Bartle and daughter Mary Pearmine.
