Max Oliphant

Max Oliphant, 73

Hansville resident Max Oliphant died May 21, 2005 in Hansville. He was 73.

He was born in Greeley, Colo. on Sept. 6, 1931.

Oliphant married Jeananne Oliphant on July 23, 1954 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He graduated from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1954 and from Berkeley Baptist Divinity School in Berkeley, Calif. in 1957.

Oliphant pastored the American Baptist Churches in Yakima, Moscow, Idaho and Bellingham. He served on the staff of The American Baptist Churches of the Northwest and concluded his ministry as an interim Minister Specialist.

In his early years, he was an All State football player in Utah. He played football in college and enjoyed watching football.

In his later years, he enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles and loved his home on Hood Canal.

He was an American Baptist.

Oliphant is survived by his wife Jeananne Oliphant of Hansville; son James (Kim) Oliphant of S. Everett; daughters Rosalyn (Alex) Johnson of Sterling, Evelyn (Rich) Banfield of Carson City, Nev. and Coleen (Robert) Astalos of Quincy; brother Nevin (Janet) Oliphant of Calif.; and nine grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. June 5 at Seattle First Baptist Church. Cremation will take place at Cherry Grove Crematory in Poulsbo.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove, 22272 Foss Road NE, Poulsbo, WA 98370.
