Marilyne White Thompson

Marilyne White Thompson, 83

Marilyne White Thompson died with courage and humor on Aug. 20 from Alzheimer’s. Thompson was born in Seattle on March 21, 1925, and lived on a houseboat with her parents Percy and Cecile and sister Evelyne until the family moved to Kingston and later to Bremerton.

Voted “Queen of the Varsity Ball,” she, along with her high school sweetheart Tommy, graduated from Bremerton High in 1943. At war’s end they married and she supported him by working full time while he attended the University of Washington on the G.I. Bill.

Highlights of her career include becoming the state’s first teacher’s aide and her social service work with troubled students.

Her family, friends and the Huskies were her great loves. Plenty of victory celebrations were held at the family home in Kingston, along with fun-filled Fourth of Julys and birthday gatherings.

Surviving family members include her husband of 62 years Duane (a.k.a. Tommy); son Steve (Paula); daughter Susie Thompson-Oishi (Dennis); and grandchildren Tracy Thompson and Stephanie Wright (Evan).

A celebration of Thompson’s life will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 12 at The Corinthian Yacht Club at Shilshole, 7755 Seaview Ave NW, Seattle. In lieu of flowers, donations suggested to The Alzheimer’s Association.
