Lawrence DeRego

Lawrence DeRego, of Port Orchard, died at home on Jan 13, 2010.

He was 83.

He was born on April 9, 1926, in Papaaloa, Hawaii, to Joseph and Margaret (Silva) DeRego.

He married Ivy Grace Smith on Oct 3, 1953, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

He graduated from St. Louis College in Honolulu in 1944 and served in the Air Force until 1948.

He worked as a pilot for Hawaiian Airlines for 30 years, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Square Steppers Square Dance Club, and the Elks Club, and enjoyed woodworking in his spare time.

He is survived by wife Ivy DeRego, of Port Orchard; sons Bill (and wife Lovey) DeRego, Jerry (and wife Carol) DeRego, John (and wife Leslie) DeRego, David (and wife Danette) DeRego, Paul (and wife Ruth) DeRego, and Joe (and wife Nancy) DeRego; daughters Laurel Plumage and Marjorie Johnson; sister, Thema (and husband Jim) Miltier; and 30 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers Edwin, John, and Isidore DeRego and sister Margaret Celeste Reams.

A rosary was held at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 18 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Bremerton, followed by a funeral mass.
