Larry Wayne Swanson | Passings

Feb. 1, 1944 – Feb. 1, 2018

Larry Wayne Swanson, a lifelong resident of Poulsbo, passed away surrounded by his children on his birthday, February 1st, 2018. Larry was the oldest of five siblings born to Vernon and Bernice Swanson. Larry is survived by his four children: Erik Swanson, Tasha King, Talon Swanson, and Trevin Swanson, and his three grandchildren: Hailey, Anna, and Emily. He is also survived by his three brothers: Bruce, Ron, and Steve Swanson. Larry’s wife Solveig and his sister Merrilee preceded him in death. The son of an artist, Larry was a lifelong supporter of the arts. He joined the North Kitsap Arts and Crafts Show committee when he was in high school, and served there for many years. More recently he served on the Cultural Arts Foundation Northwest board for over ten years. He delighted in purchasing original artwork and in helping to sort and price artwork for the Bainbridge Island Rotary auction…always keeping his eyes open for a great find. Larry was also an avid chess player, pianist, antique shopper, and poet. His love for cars was also well known. Larry entered the field of technology shortly upon leaving his brief service in the Air Force. He worked as a computer programmer at the Keyport naval station until he retired in order to assist in computer programming challenges as a contractor prior to Y2K. Larry met the love of his life at the airport, when his grandmother asked him to go to Sea-Tac to help pick up a young Norwegian lady that she was sponsoring to work in the United States for a year. The two were married before the year was out. He called Solveig his “sunny way” (a play on a direct translation of her name). A memorial service for Larry will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 2:00 pm, at Poulsbo First Lutheran Church. Those who so desire may make donations in memory of Larry to the Scholarship Fund of the Cultural Arts Foundation Northwest. Please sign the online Guest Book at: www.cookfamilyfuneralhome.com.
