Junkoh Harui, 75

Junkoh Harui of Bainbridge Island died Oct. 19 at his Bainbridge Island home surrounded by his family. He was 75.

Born on Bainbridge Island on June 23, 1933, Harui grew up amidst the natural beauty of pre-war Bainbridge Gardens. Harui graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1951 and the University of Washington in 1955, becoming a life-long Husky fan. While in college, Harui met his wife, Christina.

In 1958, Harui and Chris, opened the Island’s first florist, Town and Country Florist in Winslow. As the business grew, Harui and Chris added a nursery and moved to a larger location. In 1989, Harui and Chris moved the nursery to its present location — the site where Harui grew up — and renovated the site and renamed the business Bainbridge Gardens. This year, Harui and Chris celebrated 50 years of marriage and 50 years in business.
