John E. Armstrong

September 8, 1931-March 5, 2023

John E. Armstrong, 91, of Hansville, WA, passed away on March 5, 2023. Born on September 8, 1931 in Staten Island, NY to James and Catherine (Weigand) Armstrong. John graduated from McKee High School in Staten Island, NY and later from Farmingdale College in New York with a degree in Architectural Engineering and Structural Engineering. He served with honor in the US Navy, working as a Business Officer in the US Navy. John later served as Kitsap County PUD Commissioner for 24 years. He was a member of the American Legion, The Elks, Lions Club, Sons of Norway, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and was a Boy Scout leader.

In his spare time, John studied Irish and Scottish history, as well as Native American history and folklore. During his time as a Boy Scout leader, John made Indian clothes and jewelry. John also enjoyed genealogy.

He married Donna Mendenhall on December 14, 2018 in Poulsbo, WA. John is preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Picken and son, Ian Armstrong. John’s memory will live on with his wife, Donna and daughter, Lori Armstrong.

The public is welcome to a celebration of life service that will be held on April 20th at 2:00pm at the Elks Lodge in Bremerton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society at http://donate.cancer.org An online memorial can be seen at www.poulsbomortuary.com.
