Joann Crain, 74

Joann (Halseth) Crain of Poulsbo died on April 20. She was 74.

Crain was born to Edward and Astrid Halseth in a farmhouse in Poulsbo on May 6, 1933.

She graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1951. She married Jay Alyea and had three children. Following their divorce, she married Merle Crain on Aug. 6, 1972.

Crain loved animals and enjoyed her dogs and cats.

She also loved to sing. Camping and fishing at Lake Chelan was a favorite pastime. She was a long time member of First Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the Poulsbo Sons of Norway.

Crain is survived by her husband; her children Jayne Wallace (Merrill) of Bremerton, Don Alyea (Debby) of Mesa, Arizona, and Ken E. Alyea (Maureen) of Bremerton; her grandson, Elliott Wallace of Bremerton; step-children Marsha Henkel (John) of Gig Harbor, Tom Crain of Kingston; step-grandchildren Merrill Wallace III (Julie) of Tracyton, Mathue Crain of Tacoma, Melissa Boulch (Derek) of Bremerton, Vanessa Willis of California, Rebekah Voge of Bremerton; step-great grandchildren Zoey Wallace and Abigail Wallace of Tracyton and Audrey Boulch and Brianna Boulch of Bremerton.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Gudrun Dahlstrom, her brother Clarence Halseth and step-son Jeff Crain.

A memorial celebration of Crain’s life will be held at the Stone Chapel in Poulsbo on her birthday, at 2 p.m. on May 6.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Kitsap County Humane Society.
