James Hathaway, 69

Poulsbo resident James (Jim) Smidth Hathaway died Jan. 9, 2007 in Bremerton. He was 69.

Hathaway was born to Jim and Marion Hathaway in Westfield, Mass. on April 30, 1937.

He married JoAnn Muller on June 27, 1956 in Oso.

He graduated from Arlington High School in Arlington.

Hathaway served in the Navy from 1956 to 1960 before returning to Arlington, where he worked as a deputy sheriff for Snohomish County.

In 1966, he moved to Poulsbo, where he worked as a truck driver for Fred Hill Materials, before for working at Indian Island and NUWC Keyport until his retirement in 1997.

He enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, watching Westerns, traveling in his RV and eating “Grandma Jo’s” fried chicken.

Hathaway is survived by his wife JoAnn Hathaway of Poulsbo; sons Randy (Barbara) Hathaway of Poulsbo, Jeff (Sabrina) Hathaway of Port Ludlow, Mike (Mary) Hathaway of Chimacum and David (Julie) Hathaway of Clatskanie, Ore.; and nine grandchildren.

A celebration of Hathaway’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 19, 2007 at the Port Townsend Elks lodge.
