Former Poulsbo resident Irene Maude Powell died Aug. 12, 2003 in Des Moines. She was 97.

Powell was born to William Alexander Mills and Elizabeth Walker Mills in Vancouver, B.C. on Jan. 15, 1906.

She was married to Gerald Powell for over 50 years.

She became a U.S. citizen, living in Everett, Seattle, Edmonds, Suquamish, Poulsbo and finally in Des Moines. Powell worked in retail and real estate and volunteered for many years for Children’s Orthopedic Hospital. She enjoyed painting, bridge, writing, music and crafts.

Powell is survived by her brother, Everett Mills of Port Orchard, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Powell.

At her request, there are no services planned.
