Irene Swope, 98

Former Poulsbo resident Irene Swope died July 14, 2006 in Olympia. She was 98.

Swope was born to Joe and Mertie Kooken in Estancia, N.M. on Aug. 1, 1907.

She married Floyd Swope in California.

Swope worked as a homemaker, and during World War II she and her husband owned the Swope grocery store in Tracyton.

She enjoyed bingo, church, Mexican food and spending time with family and friends.

Swope is survived by sons Paul (Linda) Swope of Lacey, and Jim (Judy) Swope of Enid, Okla.; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Swope was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Swope and her son Robert Swope.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. July 22 at Cedar Glen Mobile Home Park, 16300 State Route 305 in Poulsbo.
