Helen D. Karas, 86

Helen D. Karas of Poulsbo died Oct. 30, 2006 in Poulsbo. She was 86.

Karas was born to Frank and Beulah (Bouck) Karas in Sedro Woolley on Jan. 5, 1920.

Karas graduated from Hollywood High School in Hollywood, Calif., and attended L.A. City College, San Diego State University, graduating from UC, Santa Barbara. She also attended UC Berkeley.

Karas worked as policewoman and detective for the Seattle Police Department from 1951-1976.

She was a member of Vinland Lutheran Church, Seattle Retired Officer’s Association, many alumni associations and the Sons of Norway.

Karas enjoyed collecting postcards, stamps, coins, teddy bears and pigs.

A memorial service was held on Nov. 3, 2006 at Vinland Lutheran Church in Poulsbo. Burial followed at Kane Cemetery on Bainbridge Island.
