Gloria C. Boyd, 69

Poulsbo resident Gloria C. Boyd died April 6, 2006 in Bremerton. She was 69.

Boyd was born to Floyd E. and Genevieve C. (Shaefer) Smith on April 2, 1937 in St. Louis, Mo.

She married Bob Boyd in Sacramento, Calif. in 1958. They made their home in Poulsbo, where they raised their three children.

She graduated from Holy Names Academy in 1955 and then from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Spokane.

Boyd enjoyed gardening, camping with her family, and motorcycle rides with her husband. They once rode across the country in a specially designed motorcycle dubbed “Darth Vader.”

She was a seamstress and enjoyed working with wood, designing and constructing the interior of the family home, along with many outside projects, one of which was a screened gazebo.

Boyd was leader of the Takima Wigata Campfire Girls and, with several friends, formed the Blazing Saddles 4-H group.

Boyd was dedicated to her church, St. Olaf Catholic Church in Poulsbo, where she served with the St. Catherine’s Society.

She is survived by her husband Bob of Poulsbo; son Bob (Renee) Boyd of Gig Harbor; daughters Mari Cay (Randy) Jacobs, of Monrovia, Md. and Teresa Boyd of Poulsbo; brother Joseph E. (Julia) Smith of St. Helens, Ore.; sisters Sandra (Gary) Brown of Mill Creek and Michele (Edward) Zalar of Cleveland, Ohio; brother-in-law Joseph Newhouse of Port Orchard; four grandchildren; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, her mother and sister Alice N. Newhouse.

A Rosary, funeral mass and gathering was held at St. Olaf’s Parish April 12.
