Gail R. Snyder

Gail R. Snyder, 80

Poulsbo resident Gail Richard Snyder Sr. died May 18, 2005 in Poulsbo. He was 80.

He was born to Dale and Maude (Hart) Snyder in Osceloa, S.D. on Nov. 24, 1924.

Snyder married Mary Hutton on March 19, 1949 in Erie, Pa.

He graduated from Central High School in Kalamazoo, Mich. in 1942.

Snyder served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years. He was Senior Chief Petty Officer in the South Pacific, New Guinea campaign, New Britton Invasion, Holliandia, Battle of Leyte Gulf and Philippines campaign.

He was an electrical engineer for the FAA for 17 years, retiring in 1979. He served in government service for a total of 32 years.

Snyder was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, LST Association and was president of the Poulsbo Viking Fest for eight years.

He is survived by his wife Mary H. Snyder of Poulsbo; son Gail (Patty) Richard Snyder Jr.; daughters Linda S. (Bob) Hoyer, Mary Kathleen (Kim) Schreckengost, Kristi (Rick) Seigel and Jeannie Snyder; brother Elmer (Dotty) Snyder; sisters Valma (Woodie) Stillman, Helen Blake and Thurvia Williams; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Snyder was preceded in death by his brother Don.

A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. May 25 at The Stone Chapel. Interment will take place at 3:30 p.m. May 25 at Island Lake Cemetery.
