Frederick W. Richardson

Frederick William Richardson of Port Gamble died Sept. 13, 2007. He was 87.

Richardson was born to Frederick Wellington Richardson and Florence (Carlson) Richardson in northeastern Montana on March 1, 1920. He married Barbara on June 29, 1943 at Riverside Church.

Richardson graduated from Midshipman School, Columbia University and University of Washington, from which he earned three engineering degrees. He worked for the Lockheed Corporation as a senior advanced systems engineer and at Boeing in product development and interior design, retiring in 1986. He did contract engineering until 1991. Richardson served in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant JG, earning his Navy Ensign rank from Columbia University. He served from 1944 to 1946.

He enjoyed tai chi, traveling, writing Japanese haiku, drawing and singing. He was a member of the Normandy Park United Church of Christ from 1966 to 1996.

Richardson is survived by his wife Barbara; daughters Sally, Ruth and Maggie (Rodney) Hitchcock; brother Ralph Richardson of Yakima; grandchildren Kira, Keely, Caitlin, Meara, Oak, Reed, Jeremy and Sean.

Richardson was preceded in death by his sister Sylvia Covey, his brother Gordon Richardson and his half-brother Douglas Johnson.

Arrangements are being handled by Cook Family Funeral Home.

At Richarson’s request, there will be no formal services, but family members and friends will gather informally at a later date. Memorial gifts may be sent to a charity of one’s choice.
