Eugene Erwin

Eugene Erwin, 92

Eugene Edgar Erwin of Newport, Ore. died May 10, 2007 in Newport, Ore. He was 92.

Erwin was born to Fred and Bea Erwin in Seattle on July 25, 1914.

He was married to Patti Erwin.

He graduated from Queen Anne High School in Seattle.

Erwin served with the 803rd tank destroyer division during World War II, earning a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Before joining the Army, he worked for the lumber mill in Port Gamble. After the war, he moved to Kodiak, Alaska, where he had several business ventures including a tavern, variety store and air service.

He was an avid gun collector and member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Elks and the National Rifle Association.

Erwin is survived by his wife Patti Erwin of Newport, Ore.; stepsons Steve Bryant of Colton, Ore. and Lance (Mia) Bryant of Canby, Ore.; brothers Bill (Pat) Criss of Mossy Rock and Bill Erwin of Anchorage, Alaska; sister Bernice Denton of Poulsbo; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Erwin was preceded in death by his first wife Robbie Erwin.

At his request no services will held, and his ashes will be scattered at sea in Kodiak, Alaska.
