Elsie M. Hamilton, 93

Elsie Marie (Holladay) Hamilton of Poulsbo died Aug. 31, 2004. She was 93.

Hamilton was born to Cary E. and Bertelle V. (Mahan) Holladay on Oct. 4, 1910 in Rainsboro, Ohio.

She married I.E. “Mike” Hamilton on May 9, 1937 in Kentucky.

Hamilton graduated from Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro, Ohio in 1926. She left home at 16 to attend college in Battlecreek, Mich. then transferred to Ohio State University, where she graduated with a bachelor’s and master’s in 1936.

She was a homemaker and substitute teacher at Shoreline High School in Seattle from 1965-1966.

Hamilton was active in PTA at many of her children’s schools and scouting in Lake Forest Park. She enjoyed making hand crafted items, gardening and sharing her flowers with residents of Martha & Mary.

She was a member of Lake Forest Park Presbyterian Church from 1944-1967, where she was superintendent of its Sunday school and a member of its Mariners Group. During her residence in Poulsbo, she attended Kingston Christian Church and Liberty Bay Presbyterian Church.

She occasionally played organ at Liberty Bay Presbyterian.

Hamilton is survived by her husband I.E. “Mike” Hamilton; son Michael E. (Donna) Hamilton of Auburn; daughters Jeanne M. Hamilton of Kelso, Kathy A. (Jim) Nicholson of Reno, Nev., and Linda S. Hamilton of Comox, British Columbia; sisters Evelyn Shelton and Dorothy Miller, both of Ohio; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother Wendell, sister Betty, grandson Mark Burhart and parents Cary E. and Bertelle V. (Mahan) Holladay.

A memorial service was held Sept. 3 at Liberty Bay Presbyterian Church. Inurnment was at Cherry Grove Memorial Park of Poulsbo.
