Douglas Hall Ames of Kingston died on March 26. He was 79.
Ames was born Oct. 14, 1929, to Ray Ames and Vera Estella Hall. He moved with his family to Minnesota where he grew up on his grandfather’s farm. After graduating from Truman High school in Minnesota, Ames attended South Dakota State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering, graduating in the top 10 percent of his class.
Ames served in the Navy before taking a job teaching engineering at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.
In 1958 Ames married Betty Marie Olsen of Seattle. After the birth of their first child they moved to Seattle and then to Kingston, where they
bought a home on President Point. In 1979 Ames and his wife moved to Texas for 14 years. When he retired they moved back to their home on President
Point.
Ames is survived by his brother: Sid Ames; daughters: Kathleen (Mrs. Lange), Joanne (Mrs. Graves), and Diana (Mrs. Grobe); and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be on Aug.s 1.
