Doug Haven

Doug Haven of Poulsbo died Dec. 8. He was 88.

Haven was born Feb. 7, 1921, in Spokane. He was raised in Seattle’s Ravenna area and graduated from Roosevelt High School. After attending the University of Washington, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. As a first lieutenant in the 10th Armor Division, Haven participated in the second wave of the Liberation of France during World War II.

After coming home from the War, Haven began his long career in the American car business. He worked in his early years for Lincoln-Mercury where he met his wife Shirley. They eventually moved to Poulsbo, and together they bought and successfully ran Budget Rent-A-Car of Kitsap County which they sold in 1998. During his retirement, he was able to pursue his passions of gardening, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Shirley; son, Doug (Jan) Haven; daughters, Holly Brassington and Shirley Macleod; three grandchildren: Pam, Kirsten and Robert; two great-grandchildren, Tatum and Logan; two sisters-in-law, Carmen Steele (John), Nannette Buren (Lou); two nieces, Lisa and Michelle; and two nephews, Josh and Sam.
