David Gustafson

David Gustafson, 77

David Gustafson of Poulsbo died Sept. 24, 2004 in Poulsbo. He was 77.

Gustafson was born to Milton and Estrid (Backstrom) Gustafson in Seattle on May 6, 1927.

He married Renee Reinhardt.

Gustafson graduated from Whitman College in Walla Walla and received his master’s degree from Washington State University.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He later worked as a high school physics and chemistry teacher at North Kitsap High School and Shoreline High School for 27 years.

He enjoyed wood and stone carving, fishing and was a great reader who read thousands of books after his retirement.

Gustafson is survived by his wife Renee (Reinhardt) Gustafson of Poulsbo; sons Jeff (Cathy) Gustafson of Tiburon, Calif. and Brian (Denice) Gustafson of Indianola; daughter Susan (Casey) McGrath of Bainbridge Island; sister Louise Boice of Bothell; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Milton and Estrid (Backstrom) Gustafson and sister Ruth Foster.

At his request, no formal services will be held.
