Caroline H. Smith, 81

Caroline Helen Smith died in Poulsbo July 11, 2006. She was 81.

Smith was born on Sept. 23, 1924 in Joplin, Mo. to William Jennings and Helen Bergstrom.

The Bergstrom family came by boat from Sweden and settled in Fletcher’s Bay. Smith grew up on Bainbridge Island, attended the Pleasant Beach Grade School and graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1943. She worked for P.N.W. until retirement in 1975. She then moved to Bremerton and then to Poulsbo in 2002.

She enjoyed her family, red roses, Reno and dancing.

Smith is survived by her daughters Carol (Walt) Ball of Bainbridge Island, Nancy Michels of Brownsville, Peggy (Joe) Graham of Silverdale, Susan (Bob) Jellicoe of Bainbridge Island; son Patrick of Poulsbo; brother Kenneth Bergstrom of Shoreline; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and Smokey, her beloved poodle dog.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil P. Michels and her sister Florence Hoffman.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. July 15 at Hillcrest Cemetery on Bainbridge Island. There will be a gathering of friends and family at 2 p.m. July 15 at her home in Poulsbo.
