Betty Marie Oberg was born October 13, 1924, to Olaf Olsen and Bertha Oberg Olsen. She lived with her family in Irondale before moving to Seattle. Oberg graduated from Queen Anne High school in Seattle and worked for the MGM movie distribution office before attending nursing school at
Washington State College. She transferred to the University of Washington where she graduated cum laude at the top of her class. Oberg taught nursing at the University of Washington and served as the nurse on campus at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.
In 1958, Oberg married Douglas Hall Ames of Minnesota. After the birth of their first child they moved to Seattle and then to Kingston, where they bought a home on President Point. In 1979, the couple moved to Texas for 14 years. When he retired they moved back to their home on president Point. Oberg died peacefully at home with her family around her.
Oberg is survived by her husband Douglas; her brother, Robert Olsen; daughters Kathleen (Mrs. Lange), Joanne (Mrs. Graves), and Diana (Mrs. Grobe), and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Jan. 23 at the Kingston Christian Church, followed by a potluck supper in the church hall. Memorial donations may be made to Action International Ministries (http://www.actionintl.org/).
